Question Front Driveshaft U-Joints

From reading the forum in the past, I guess I knew this was coming but I just wanted to make sure I am not barking up the wrong tree. 2001 LR Disco II just hit 100K miles. Two days ago I was driving home and started noticing a vibration between around 30 and 45mph. Quickly got stronger later that day on the way home and it is now very noticeable. I assume this is the u-joints on the front driveshaft going out. Two questions:

1. Any way to tell for sure or do I just rebuild and hope its better?
2. To rebuild or buy a rebuilt one? I've done a number of projects on the Disco including changes brake rotors, tune ups, fluid changes, etc. Is this going to be a royal pain in the **** or is it pretty straight forward.

I appreciate the help. this forum is great. Thanks!

It most like is as these are beginning signs...you are also at the wear out stage... There is some step by step instruction on here : https://landroverforums.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=26352

Have fun or pay $300.00 for a rebuilt one... There is a guy in florida who advertises on ebay. You can also pull, get parts and take to a driveline shop.

Enjoy, Chris

IMO, it's pretty straight forward. Others feel it's a royal PITA.

If you pull the driveshaft, you should be able to feel any binding that may be occurring. You can also drive it with the shaft removed and see if the vibration went away. If you have an early 2001 you should have the 10mm stud that allows you to activate the CDL. Mid to late 2001 probably won't have it.

Have they been properly greased at least every 5,000 miles? If not then I wouldn't even bother checking them, just rebuild it or get it rebuilt.
