Default Front End Vibrates when Accelerating

Hi All,

Just received delivery of a 2002 Land Rover Discovery 2 with 44k miles. The front drive shaft is new but the vehicle shakes when accelerating - gets worse and louder as I accelerate. Any thoughts?

Todd

I would check tire condition, psi, and have them balanced.
Eliminate the simple and inexpensive things first.
Worn, low, and/or out of balance tires will cause alot of vibrations, and they can come and go depending on speed.

Try revving the engine in neutral as well to see if the cooling fan is a contributor.

+1
and you can also remove the belt to rule out the fan, tensioner, and accessories.

An 02 with 44k miles might have VERY old tires - potential dry rot and out of round conditions.
There should be a date code on the sidewall to decipher.......

Default get the grease gun out

I think I would be looking at the prop-shafts,front and rear, grease them up first may be dry.,,,, if the vibration is less, the then think about , replacing the UJ, or a re-balance on them

Thanks all. I'm a new member and posting for the first time. The tires are new but I thought the wheels could be bent or wobbling so had my son drive it around while I watched and but look good. The front drive shaft is new also but maybe it wasn't installed correctly - although that seems like a pretty simple job. Taking it to a Land Rover specialist Thursday and will update.

Looks like when the front drive shaft broke it did some internal damage to the transmission and transmission case. New transmission around $3k installed.

3k, wow, I think I would be looking on E bay in the UK they go for 200 UKP, then have a full professional rebuild with a 12 month, 12k miles, guarantee a couple of hours to take your out straight swap,
after all that's what this site is all about keeping the Old Girls going at a reasonable expense, and not lining the pockets of others unless it absolutely required

3k installed is a great price for any shop to install a transmission
