Default Front and Rear Differentials, same?

Are the front and rear diffs basically the same? Except for the flange for the Rotoflex?

If they are and I'm doing the conversion from a rotoflex to ujoint then in Theory I could just get a 2nd hand front diff and swap them out and bolt up the new drive shaft?

Reason I ask is my rear diff maybe toast and I have already ordered the conversion to ujoints. If I need to replace the diff I figure it would be worth it more than the hassle for removing the flange on another rear diff.

I was looking at the Stage 2 GBR 4.11 gears and the front diffs all say reverse rotation. Does that mean the front and rear diffs are different or what are they talking about?

Coil Sprung - Diff Gearing

even if the housing is completely the same, the front gears have to be reverse rotation in a low pinion application.

Stock everything is the same. The reason companies like Ashcroft Kam and GBR offer reverse rotation gearing is because in a stock setup the force is being applied on the weak side of the gear's teeth. Reverse rotation uses the stronger side of the teeth

Great explanation. Thanks.

Maybe you can answer this. Do you have to get HD front CV's and rear shafts right away with 4.11's, or can the stock parts handle the load while my bank account rebounds?

stock parts will handle it for a while if your light on the skinny pedal. But just save for them both at the same time, why spend all that money and have to drive it like a nancy
