Thanks guys. Yeah Lucky8's is not greasable at this time. According to their customer service, there was an issue with manufacturing and it will take months before that option is available again. Good thing because I was ready to buy it, before I read your comments. I ended up getting a TrueDrive from carparts.com. Couldn't find a whole lot of info about them: https://www.carparts.com/details/Lan...EPL545503.html. Let's hope it's not a piece of crap... I'll take my old one to my local drive shaft repair shop to see if it's worthy to put a set of Moog greasable joints in it, as suggested by Extinct, and keep it as a spare.

If you can get the factory shaft rebuilt, I would use that and keep the TrueDrive as a spare. The TrueDrive is most likely a reman'd unit, but who knows its country of origin. At least you know the original is a quality part so as long as the shop who does the work is reputable then I would choose that one over an unknown reman.

Again, many of us have had great success with the GBR rebuilt drive shaft. Mine has worked for over 70k miles. Plus, they are a wealth of information on all things Land Rover and wonderful to work with on any issues.

Thanks for the info! I was wondering, if the root cause of this problem is the proximity between the catalytic converter and the front shaft, has anyone tried to have a heat shield between them? That would probably alleviate this issue significantly right?

that is exactly the cause of the issue. well, that and the OE shaft not being greasable.

i think the cat should have a heat shield on it from the factory. still, the shaft is pretty damn close to the cat, so, not sure how much good it does.

I did a quick check and found a couple of products to wrap the cat converter, I'll investigate further: https://www.heatshieldproducts.com/c...er-heat-shield

Several people have installed heat shields. I fabbed mine from aluminum exhaust duct from Home Depot. TiminNova found one on Amazon that looks good.

I believe that the other issue is that the A/C condenser drains onto the front drive shaft as well which adds to the environmental stress.

I'd be curious to see what Tim found. I see a couple of generic heat shields on Amazon.

A search should turn it up, or message him directly.
