Default Front Sunroof not working....ECU?

Well I've checked the fuses, all good there.

The rear sunroof opens and closes just fine. I've yet to check the motor, however I don't think thats the problem. I can hear the ECU click when I try to close the sunroof, however nothing when trying to open it.

Has anyone ever had their front sunroof stop working due to the ECU going bad? I would think if it was in fact bad, the rear sunroof wouldn't work either....

I've searched the rave, with no answers to my questions.....

are you sure its on the rails and all screws are tight? i would think its the motor or other physical problem not the ECU.

I rebuilt it and greased it myself, so of course it works perfect!

This is definitely an electrical issue....

I've actually got 2 spare motors laying around, guess i'll plug them in to rule that out....

also while you have the headliner out now is a good time to paint it, or re-cover the fabric if you have not already.

swap the switches first!!!!! use the rear switch to open the front and vice versa... that tells you what it is

It is common for the sunroof ECU to get cracks in it and one or both sunroofs will not work.
Same thing happens to the rear windows, if they both ever stop working that is what it is assuming all fuses and whats nots are good.

You can remove the ECU and resolder the cracked joints and all is well again.

I need to clarify that this is a DI fix only.

I soldered my rear window ECU not too long ago, so I'm familiar with the look of a cracked solder. If this is indeed the case, I'll post pics for the archives. Thanks!

The problem ended up being that the front sunroof motor was bad. I had two spare motors laying around from a parts vehicle, I plugged them in and both worked. One of them, however, had not been operated in a while and squeeled/hesitated when i plugged it in. After a few cycles it was completely freed up and worked great. Make sure this isn't the case with your motor when operated free of the load of the sunroof.

Also swap the plugs on the switches just to rule out that there is a either a bad switch or ECU.

glad you got it fixed. i had a hunch it was the motor because you had said it was attempting to move. i think if the ECU was shot it would have no response.
