Default Front sunroof problem

So, got into my wifes Discovery today on the way home. It was an odd 62 degrees outside, so I felt the need to ride with the sunroofs cracked. The only problem is, the front sunroof would not budge. The rear sunroof would raise up and retract back and forth, but I got nothing up front. Obviously not fuse problem. Tried that simple task already. And it wasn't stuck, it didn't make any noise like it was trying to move but couldnt, it just sat there. Has anybody had this problem? Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance,

Ryan

Sorry, I cannot help you. Either the motor is seized or the switch is bad. Since it is closed I just wouldnt worry about it, but that is me.

In one case it could be the switch...OR the mechanism for the sunroof is gone or struggling for some reason. Sometimes the tracks get dirty, but then you would still be able pop it up... so i guess thats not it. There might be a more in-depth look at this, but it sounds like the Sunroof mechanism or switch is out. here is the worst part:

I think sunroof mechanisms are pushing$1000... so you better hope thats not it.

How much do you like to feel the breeze?

Hello, You could rule out the switch by switching the working back switch with the front switch. If it works, it is the switch. If it does not work it is something else.

That's all I have.

Check for a front fuse, if that is good, then see if you can manually open it.

I checked the fuses under the steering wheel. There is only one fuse for both sunroofs. I was kind of thinking that it was the switch, but I'm not quite sure how to pop the plate off that holds the switches to the roof. Would my RAVE CD tell me how to do it, or is it just as simple as poping it with a screw driver?

Thanks guys,

Ryan

Try to operate the roof manually, that will at least let you know if the motor, gears and tracks are OK. Also, use a test probe to see if you are getting power to the roof.

UPDATE:

I popped the plate off, swapped the blue male connects behind the two switches and the rear sunroof worked but the front did not. So I know that the switch is good. How would I be able to "operate the roof manually"? Just push up on the glass? I don't have a test probe, is there anything else I can use?

Thanks,

Ryan

Sounds like the motor or sun roof it self has had it, there are places to buy good guaranteed used one,

By the way, never run off road with you sun roof open, it will fail and need to be replaced.

Could it be the sunroof ECU? Is there a way to test it?
