Default Front wheel bearings?

Ok, I have it on good authority that the noise I am hearing from the front of my truck may very well be one or both of the front wheel bearings. My question is this. I have been all over the usual parts suppliers websites and cannot find just the front wheel bearings. Are these installed in such a way that I can just repack the existing bearings, or am I gonna need a bearing cartridge, and if so, where can I get it?

Unfortunate for you you need to replace the whole hub.
www.roverlandparts.com for used ones.

I would hold up a minute. Describe the noise in more detail and when do you hear it?
First it is very rare to have one much less both hubs have bearing failures.
How many miles on your truck, sure you are not hearing the front drive shaft failing on you?
You have a few things that can make noises, drive shaft. t/case, the third member or the hubs. Fo what any of these cost to fix, you don't want to be guessing?
Get back to us with more details.

What I am hearing is something to do with a rotating assembly of some sort. I am pretty sure it's not the driveshaft as it has been rebuilt previous to my owning the truck. The truck is an '03 with 113k+ miles on it. I can only hear the noise when the truck is coasting. Just the slightest amount of throttle pressure makes the noise go away. It is definately coming from the front of the truck, but I cannot narrow down the exact location. I was hoping that I would be able to just put in new bearings for pretty cheap and that would eliminate what I saw as a simple and inexpensive problem, but if I have to replace the entire hub, not so simple or inexpensive.

I would keep looking.
Are your 3 amigos on?
When the hubs go bad itcan set off the 3 amigos.
Rotate your tires front to back and see if the noise follows.

I talked to Mike about it earlier, and he advised I look at the front brake pads to make sure they are in good shape. I'll let you know what I find out.

Daaaauuum Spike

"unfortunately you have to replace the whole hub"

Are the bearings pressed into the hub making the combination a single unit? I can press races in and out unless there is something beyond doing this I don't know about. This is my first LR so it's a new system for me to learn. I know that, just because I've not heard of a set up like that don't mean diddly however, because I've never heard of a set up like this I am curious especially if its the same on an 04 (like mine).

Thanks for any light you could shine on this.

All DII's have a non servicable hub assembly, other cars use this same set up.
S-10 Blazers, front wheel drive cars and min-vans...there is no pressing bearings in or out.
If you look at the link I included earlier you can see the hub and see that it is sealed and non servicable.
www.roverlandparts.com has used ones.

Spike,

Yes sir - I saw the link from before and looked at the picture, I grew up in the woods... in... FJ40's and could remove and replace all the bearing components in those axles. As I mentioned the Disco is a new system for me...just trying to get my learn on.

Thank you for your help and time.

No problem, now if you had a DI you could replace all four wheel bearings, I had mine done a year ago, 2 rebuild kits from AB which included all four bearings and hub seals for $120. ($60 per kit)
And both the inner and outer bearings on a DI are the same.
This is yet another reason why DI's are better than DII's.
