Default Fuel door

I have a 2003 land rover discovery and the fuel door isnt locking properly. i went ahead and bought the plastic piece to fix that but my question is if the door is supposed to swing open via a spring or something cause mine doesnt seem to do that

I don't believe it does. I have an 03 as well. My plastic piece needs replacing. Mine just pops open enough to grab with your fingers to open it. Don't think there's any kind of spring etc.

the plastic part just spring it open enough that you can get a grip on it, it does not open the door all the way.

Some suggest buying two, because you might break the first one during install. I bought two, and it went in fine. I guess I have a spare for my other rover.

I was given a tip to soak the plastic clip in hot tap water first and then install
