About amonth ago I came across a very affordable 95 Disco I. I've since had to replace the starter, clutch, and the ignition coil. Asside from leaks just about everywhere, its a fairly nice ride... The other day...(here we go) I descided to go through a small mudpit. Went throught it several times, very slow at first, then a little faster...
The last time I went through the water hole, I went much faster, splashing everything under the hood. The engine cut off... and to this day will not start.

I've checked a few of the basic things...

I have spark at the plugs
No water was sucked in...dry element
I have a little over 30psi at the fuel rail...
All fuses are good...

I wanted to see if the injectors were being told to open so I unplugged one and connected a voltmeter to it.
The voltmeter just stayed at zero.

So I'm fairly certain at this point that the issue is my computer. My questions are... how do i test the computer? And how can i prevent this from happening again?

Please, any help you could provide would be excellent.

 

Well to prevent this from happening again you need to go slow through water.
The ECU may have gotten water inside it. If I remember right there is one on teh fender under the hood, it is sealed to prevent water ingress, but if the seal is bad or the water has enough force to get past the seal...open it up, let it dry out and then see what happens.
You can re-water proof it.

Yes, it is pretty certain you soaked your ECU which on a D1 will shut the system down.
You can wait and with time it may dry out, or remove it and attempt to dry it out.

 

I agree that you probably did get it wet. I find it a little weird that the fuel and ignition control circuits still function properly, though. Does it crank, but not start or is a no crank, no start?

 

Unfortunatly I cant find the ecu under the hood... The only one I can find is under the passenger seat, which stayed dry.

The vehicle still cranks, and everything inside the vehicle works, It just wont start.

 

There is no ECU under the seat, that is where the CD changer goes.
Do you have the RACE CD yet? Do a search for it on the forum, find it, look up your ECU location and dry it out.
You have spark but no fuel you said right? Fuel pump comes on just wont start?

 

Yes, underneath the drivers seat is a cd changer... BUT underneath the passenger seat is a small black box with wires going into it that says "EFI control Unit".... Which is perfectly dry.

Are there any sensors that may have gotten wet that might be preventing the efi unit from functioning properly?

Yes I have spark, I have fuel to the rail.

Are your plugs getting wet? Do you have water in the cylinders?
Buy a can of starting fluid, remove the intake tube, that thing that goes from the air filter box to the engine, have a frined crank the engine over while you sray the starting fluid into the trottlebody, does it run on the starting fluid?

 

Spike, Have you read anything I've been posting? How are your trouble shooting skills....capable of repairing a lawnmower? This is slightly different. I dont think your going to be able to help me.

What I'm hoping to get from this thread is an answer on the computer related aspects of the 95 Disco. Does anyone(else) know of any sensors or probable places for a ecu failer could be. My issue is that the injectors are not opening.

How much pressure should I have at the fuel rail?

 

I believe 34-37psi. But 30PSI will still run..

I had a failing fuel pump (5psi at the fuel rail) and it still ran.. sort of
