Really though, if you haven't done the things suggested by Disco Mike. Then you are missing the only "BIG" things you can do. All the other suggestions, including mine are only for very small incremental improvements. Firstly, and foremost your engine and driveline needs to be operating at peak efficiency, and with the least friction.

Shell 93 octane v-power gas and add lucas fuel injector cleaner and upper cylinder lubricant and you will see an improvement. I've definately noticed a big difference since the injector cleaner.

Well it looks like that normal maintenance is the best bet so far.

I know when I track my diesel VW I put Dry Ice on my intercooler to help get more air in.

So what about a cold air intake or a cat back system on our Rovers?

Did any of you all see the myth busters where they tailgated semi trucks to increase mpg? Even at four car lengths back you get something like a 15% increase. Not that I'm saying we should ride the truckers *** but any time I come across a truck going a decent speed I follow. You can actually feel when the wind resistance is low (especially in a LR).

Don't waste your money on either of those ideas, it just doen't give you any return.
What are you getting for mileage and what have you done so far?

Well it looks like everything that works onother cars and trucks that get better mileage and power doesn't work on Land Rovers.

Anyone have any idea why?

After all if it works on so many vehicles what makes ours that much different?

I would not think that it was the programing of the ECM due to the fact the Disco I's and Disco II's use Gems and Bosch.

With non ethanol I get 12mpg in town 15mpg hwy.
This is with 10 ply245/75/16 BFG A/T's, ARB, Winch, Mantec snorkel, new O2's 27k ago, Magnecor wires Bosch 4's.
all syn oil's, with stock ECM.

So with my setup I'm not far off OEM.

I think it is because LR already has the engine maxed out for power and tourqe, the engine is just big enough to do the job that is asked of it.
When you already push it to the limit there just isint any wiggle room. Hence needing premium gas.

Nitrogen only helps because it doesnt leak out like air does. Belive it or not tires are not air tight, the air molicules are small enough to seep through the rubber, nitrogen molicules are bigger and cannot fit through the rubber.
The #1 reducer of MPG is under inflated tires.
