Default fuel pump install nightmare

2004 fuel pump

i pulled the carpet and found the neck ring holding the fuel pump down was popped off. i replaced the pump with the little airtex e8335 greased up the seals and put everything back. the ring keeps popping off and will not hold down the pump. something is fubar on the tank threads and a new tank is 1200 bucks. i am thinking about just using epoxy on the ring unless anybody has a better idea.

Does it tighten an pop off after some driving, or does it not get fully seated? In either case, there aren't really threads, more like tabs that need to seat. I'd try tweaking the metal ring with a pliers for better engagement long before I'd glue it on. A little bit of trial and error should tell whether you're moving in the right direction. It's possible that someone didn't know what they were doing at some point and damaged the metal ring, but it should be salvageable.
