A "fun" little XYZ issue.

You're a pro with this now, having done it once already in the last few days!
My heart ached for you when I saw your first post. I narrowly avoided this fate several years ago. The shaft didn't break, but I somehow stripped the threads, leaving the threaded section with an hourglass shape. I have no idea how that happened since I'm careful to avoid overtightening.
I was just barely able to get a die onto the shaft and cut new threads. The new threads are shallow, but they are enough to hold a nut and the lever in place for nearly 10 years now.
I couldn't find my pic to share here, but I found it in my post on the other forum for the thread Discorama posted with the genius idea of drilling a hole through the floor pan to be able to pull out and replace the shaft. My post is linked below. You may have seen it already.

Got the new shaft finally in on saturday (friday did not give results).
It sure was a fiddle doing alone and not doing damage on the shaft with visegrips etc.
The flange inside the transmission just did not want to cope and stay straight to allow the shaft to enter.
I helped it a bit grinding a bit bigger bevel on the end of the shaft.
After the shaft was in, a lot of fiddling with the xyz and the cable to get setup on correct spot to have the gears on the same spots that the gearlever is at. Did not have the best possible helper in the cabin while I was underneath, so a bit of miscommunication and lack of.
In the end, I had to make the adjusting holes on the xyz a little longer to get all aligned and working as should.
Don't understand why, but now all is aligned, illuminates and works correctly.
Only have the one bolt left to hold the XYZ on it's place, the rear one, as the front one snapped when taking it off.
Maybe in some very distant future I will drill and tap it IF the gearbox ever has to come out.
Got a handy pump for adding the oil to the transmission, cost ~12 euros.

I have bigger pumps for the front/rear diffs, manual trans and centerdiff.
Just to close this case of mine for the future google searchers.
All is now good and working correctly.
Thanks for all comments and help!
