Default Gas Cap

Getting the P0441 about once a week lately... I will start with replacing the gas cap, does anyone have any experience with the $17 AllMakes one on Amazon?

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...3360_424397570

Or is it necessary in this case to spend the $25 at L8 or the $50 at AB?

Also maybe this is related or not but have been hearing wheezy noises from behind the radio on start up. It goes away after a while, or if you turn off the climate control completely. AC has been working.

Thanks!

I would start with 17 dollar one, they are not rocket science

Have you tried to clean the gas cap and spout with a scotch-brite pad already?

Yeah I did both of those things already. I haven't ruled out the purge valve yet, though in reading some threads that usually has a noticeable effect on how the engine runs. Not sure though.

Thanks

I get the 5.99 unit at Walmart by Stant, you can pop it apart and keep your lanyard also.

Had the same code last month. Gas cap fixed it.

Whenever I get P0441 I check the cap & if it’s a Bosch purge control valve I slap on the Hyundai unit for 10-15.00 off Ebay.

Heads up... The Allmakes cap from Amazon doesn't work. The screw hole for the tether is smaller than the stock screw. The cap fits but it has the wrong tether.

However as I already had the cap off, I took another stab at cleaning the thread on the fill pipe. Last time I cleaned it I think I may have just cleaned the top lip, this time with some scotch pad I scrubbed all around the thread and that seemed to dislodge some scale. Now that the cap is back on it seems to idle a little smoother... Won't know for sure until the code doesn't come back but something seems better.

This gas cap is 5.99 at any Wal-Mart & 94-04 D1/D2 can have this gas cap. I’ve seen some 03-04’s with a different cap, but for sure the earlier ones have the same cap minus the lanyard & LR Logo.

All you have to do is pop the top off the old cap & the new cap. Then transfer the new threaded part (and all parts associated with it) onto the onto the old gas cap top (which allows you to keep the lanyard). Bingo you’ve replaced the old plastic thread piece & the valve with a new unit, and it only cost 5.99.

Thank you for reporting back on this! We had gotten the error twice so far and I was thinking of buying this amazon cap.
