Default Gas Cap Woes

So I need a new gas cap...the darn thing is broken.
I cannot close it tight enough anymore to avoid the Check Engine Light because it gets jammed in there so bad that I end up not being able to open it. Cut to last week struggling at the gas station and it broke. I didn't have this problem until after I got my truck fixed. The gas cap now clicks in both directions (even when opening...hence it just turns and turns and I can't get it open).

How do I avoid this in the future? Does anyone know what happened? It's like the cap stopped, well, stopped fitting right.

Have tiy tried pushing down on the cap when you try and open it? Kinda like opening a medicine bottle.

Then replace it with a new non vented gas cap.

I tried everything when I was at the gas station. I spent 20 minutes trying to get it off before I ended up calling for backup...

I take it the gas cap on Atlantic British is vented...

Dumb girl question....do gas caps come in different sizes or are all standard??

No such thing as a dumb question.

Yes, all GAS caps are the same size, DIESEL caps are a different size.

Just go to the auto parts store and buy your gas cap.
Bat your eyelashes and throw a cute simle at the guy behind the counter and have him help you remove the broken one.

If you buy a vented gas cap then you will get a EVAP code all the time.
Non-vented gas caps seal the gas tank from the outside so that the gas vapors dont pollute the ozone.

I'm beginning to think all the car part places around here are hopeless. I went into a few and asked for a nonvented gas cap. Every place asked me make, model, year and promptly said "I'm sorry, I'll have to order it, oh wait, it's not available for order..."

ARGH! Irma is one tough broad...I need mah new gas cap...and I don't want to order an LR one because it's too freakin expensive right now...

Here are $15 gas caps from roverland parts:

But I'm sure Walmart has gas caps for cheap and you don't have to deal with being blocked by the half witted computer clerk.

Any gas cap should fit, provided its from a similar year model.
Old 60's gas caps are of course diffrent, but look here at these pictures
one is from my DISCO, one is from a 2000 Toyota Camry..

Can you tell which one is which?? No and probably neither will the car.

Most importantly is get someone to help you get the old one off and then just get any old gas cap that will fit.

Pancho-The one on the right side of the first pic is from your Disco.

Here is what you do Annie, tommorrow go and test drive another DII, while on the test drive remove their gas cap...j/k.

He is right though, does not need to be a LR gas cap.
