Gas Cap Woes

Gas Cap Woes
So I need a new gas cap...the darn thing is broken.
I cannot close it tight enough anymore to avoid the Check Engine Light because it gets jammed in there so bad that I end up not being able to open it. Cut to last week struggling at the gas station and it broke. I didn't have this problem until after I got my truck fixed. The gas cap now clicks in both directions (even when opening...hence it just turns and turns and I can't get it open).
How do I avoid this in the future? Does anyone know what happened? It's like the cap stopped, well, stopped fitting right.

Yes, all GAS caps are the same size, DIESEL caps are a different size.
Just go to the auto parts store and buy your gas cap.
Bat your eyelashes and throw a cute simle at the guy behind the counter and have him help you remove the broken one.

I'm beginning to think all the car part places around here are hopeless. I went into a few and asked for a nonvented gas cap. Every place asked me make, model, year and promptly said "I'm sorry, I'll have to order it, oh wait, it's not available for order..."
ARGH! Irma is one tough broad...I need mah new gas cap...and I don't want to order an LR one because it's too freakin expensive right now...

Here are $15 gas caps from roverland parts:

But I'm sure Walmart has gas caps for cheap and you don't have to deal with being blocked by the half witted computer clerk.

No such thing as a dumb question.

Old 60's gas caps are of course diffrent, but look here at these pictures
one is from my DISCO, one is from a 2000 Toyota Camry..
Can you tell which one is which?? No and probably neither will the car.
Most importantly is get someone to help you get the old one off and then just get any old gas cap that will fit.
