Default Gas gage . . .

Hi everyone, I got a 99 Disco II and have some trouble with the gas gage, when it comes to half of tank is OUT, but when I fill it up, the niddle goes up to full and still taking more gas in the tank. The only way I got to know how much gas I still have is checking the odometer, and when it reaches 250 miles is time to fill up. One big problem, "my wife never looks at it" she sees 1/2 of tank and keep on going. I hope someone now any tricks to fix it. Thank you.

Could be one of two things. Either the guage is failing or the sender on the fuel pump is failing. I think you can remove the pump and with the key on move the sending unit while someone watches the fuel gauge. If you get full range on the guage while doing this I would say you may want to see if you can adjust the sender unit.
