Default Gas gauge out on 2000 disco

I am looking at buying a 2000 disco for a trip to panama. The vehicle checks out ok, except for the gas gauge. Is this something I can replace myself? Anyone know the cost involved and where I can guy the parts? Thanks new to Land Rover. Greg

How mechanical are you, how soon are you planning this trip?
This would be a great truck for such a trip but you would want to really go thru it checking and repairing many small issues so you don't break down out in the middle of no where.
As for the fuel guage, could be the guage, could be the pump or any wire between them that is pinched.

I own a 1968 Mercedes and replace everything on that, so I can hold my own on older cars. I am planning on leaving Dec 1st of this year.
I have a list of componants the previous owner has replaced. It is a long list. The vehicle has been upgraded quite a bit from what I can tell.

Here is a break down of the vehicle:

Let me know what else I might expect to have to replace. I am travelling with a friend who is from panama, so at least I will have someone to speak the langauge if I need a part. Was going to take extra belts and filters, anything else you would recommend I take on the trip?

Service the ACE and dainr both diffs, looking for excess metal. Robers are know for their weal diffs, usually gernade while driving. Plug wires, Magnacor 8mm, a few cans of good fuel additive like B&G's 44 K or Chevrons Techtrom or SeaFoam. I would suggest you decarbon the engine and do a very intensee ATF engine flush to get rid of all the intenal crap and improve your oil pressure. Chek the belt tensioner and idler pulley, they are known to fail. Run the truck thru Rover for recalls.
Thats all I can think of for now.
