Gasoline question
Now thats funny. But true.
You guys should check out the Shell debit gas card. 10 cents off all the time. No credit card, no buying other stuff. Just 10 cents off deducted when it hits your checking account. Run the card as a debit enter your PIN...discount comes out of your assigned checking account. It takes awhile to come in the mail. Save the email they send you with a password. Its a little cumbersome to setup but its free!

The cost of an octane booster will be about the same as buying premium, plus you need to count the mileage and time to go buy it at the auto store. You should just run Premium, I account for any where between $3-$5 more than regular and I am driving a better vehicle than a Civic so the cost is worth it.
2nd. When it says it raises it "a point", it is actually raising it .1! So, a load of crap.
I will tell you what I do run... and some may say it is BS but I have proven it to be useful time and again: Lucas fuel additive and upper cylinder lubricant. When I run that, I will get 1-2 MPG better. I have tested it in every vehicle I have, and is always the same. The biggest proof was a test I did this summer and again this Thanksgiving, driving the family truckster from NJ to FL. There is no trip that is a better test of MPG as I'm driving through the night on a flat and straight road keeping a steady speed. I did this up and back both times to prove to myself it either works or does not work. With a FULLY loaded down vehicle and 2 adults 2 kids, I averaged 19 MPG without Lucas, and around 21 with it.
In the Rover, I have been using it nonstop. In the other cars I don't really. But, I have also been getting 14MPG in the Rover. To me, considering my foot is heavy and that is a lot of around town as well as mountain/hills for skiing, that is not too bad.
I buy the big bottle (on sale for $8) and that is usually around 8 fill ups... so $1 per shot. So, if I could get 2MPG better on 20 gallons, that is 40 more miles. Divide that by 14 and I'm saving 2.85 gallons per fill up, or around $10 PER TANK. Don't believe 2MPH? Think it is only 1? Cut it in half then... $5 per tank and $1 for the Lucas. I don't really give a crap about the few bucks honestly... if so and as mentioned I wouldn't have picked this as the extra vehicle. But, more MPG means a smoother running engine, which means it is slicker in there and less wear in general.
As a note... all the tests were on a 2009 Mazda CX-9 with 15,000 miles, and NOT the Rover...but I have to assume my 14MPG with 120K on the clock is partly due to that.

Octane boosters are a waste of money, there are video's on youtube that prove it actually reduces mpg.
Sam's Club, Costco, Joes Gas and Crab Shack etc. are all cheap crap gas with no detergents to help keep your fuel injectors clean.
When it comes to gas you get what you pay for.
I have had the Shell Saver Card for over a year and I LOVE IT.
If you want to avoid sticker shock at the pump slow down, you cant drive a 4500lb suv 80+mph and then bitch about the price of gas.
Dont run the tank empty, once you get to 3/4 of a tank or so fill it back up.
