Default Gear slack while accelerating

For lack of a better way to put it, it feels like there is slack when i hit the gas from a slow roll (about 15 mph) and it causes something to jerk. My question is where is the slack that is causing the delay when i hit the gas. It feels like the driveline but the front and rear are new as well as the rubber coupling. It all still appears to be in good condition. Has anyone else experienced this? It also happens when im gassing it at higher speeds then let off the pedal and step on it again. It feels like it is somewhat normal for the rover to drive like this, but at the same time feels like it may be a little bit more than what it should be. Any help appreciated as always!

You should also look at your engine mounts.

Are feeling a delayed down-shift? The AT will up-shift in order to produce the best gas mileage, if you slow down for a turn but do not stop the AT will not shift down into 1st gear. Then when you try to accelerate it has no power until it down-shifts.
Maybe you are experiancing normal operation?

Its only the first .5 seconds of acceleration that it happens. But it kind of went away after I got new back tires today. Everything feels different with new tires.

I have that exact problem word for word. Haven't been able to pin it down yet. So many things it could be. It does feel like "its more than it should be", I agree. I don't claim to be anywhere near knowledgeable but I'm guessing is not the drive line either because mine is also rebuilt and serviced. Maybe try to find a difference between the behavior in HI and LO range would throw out a clue? Just guesses. Anyway hope your problem stays gone.

It's usually around speed bumps and other slow, annoying driving places. The rover is meant to be free, not slowed down by shopping centers, crosswalks, and speed bumps.

What do you mean both diffs have been new?
What ever it is, you need to find a good mechanic check and repair it before you blow some expensive part. In the mean time, quit driving it.

Does it do it in sport mode? I've noticed the electronically shifted tranny feels a little off compared to other cars when its in its normal mode. It seems to want to hold it in higher gears when you slow down and then accelerate quickly. You then get a pretty harsh downshift that kind of feels like slack. If you throw it into sport mode you'll notice the difference. Ymmv.

I'll give it a try in sport. Good idea. I'd like to quit driving it as well but it is my only mode of transport. I will however restrict it to work (10 min away at no more than 30 mph) until I have the money for my mechanic to look at it. Hope you have another vehicle Arizona.
