getting a D2 ready for towing duty
#21
I have a Boat that I tow around quite often, brought it from NY to CO about a year ago. 1800 miles, 2 days of over 12 hrs of non-stop traveling at 75-80MPH, boat and trailer weight about 4500 with no trailer brakes, no problems and never got hot.
I towed it about a month ago with my 33 on (off-road tires, typically keep my stock 18s on but just had to get the boat) WOW was that fun...its fine on flat land but soon as i started on the slightest hill i could barely maintain 55 and would never tow it again with the 33s.
Where you are going to be towing is a big factor. I would never take the boat and trailer into the mountains without brakes on the trailer or in general since it would be hell but if I lived anywhere in the plain states i would just tow with the 33s on since everything is flat...
Does anyone know if there is a port on the side of the tranny you can plug into to get tranny temp? Could you remove the current temp sensor and replace it with an actual dial gauge or does that communicate with the ECU for tranny control?

I can get away with it since I only put the 33s on for off-roading (Treadwright 285/75R16 BACKBONE) and in Low range gearing isn't an issue on the trail. I have my 18s with road tires that i switch to for everyday driving...saves the tread on the trail tires and dont have to deal with the humming of the tire
What do you guys think about ditching the current temp sensor that only tells you when things are out of control and replacing with a dial gauge? Where is the sensor located?
