both filters are very good. they are the same size and are made by champion filters so theyre very similar. the m1 will filter out smaller particles over the k&n but the k&n will flow better than the m1.

So why does a D2 with the 4.0 take six quarts but my D1 with the 4.0 take seven?

Thats an interseting point.

So which would be a better choice:
1) Better Flow Rate?
or
2) Better filtering?

I would guess filtering, but what do I know, I'am an electronics guy (EE)

Regards,

Nick

I used to use Castrol Syntec 20w50, but it is way to hard to find, so I use M1 15w50, which I can find anywhere, even Target.

Right on Spike! About the oil quart info on D1 vs. D2... are they the same engines? If so, then they should use the same amount of oil. It looks like maybe the oil pan has a higher capacity in the D1, that's all.

Pretty sure the blocks are the same, I know the heads are, but intake and management are different. Might also have something to do with the radiator and oil cooler...

**okdiscoguy: Since you're in the industry, what is the better choice; Better flow rate or Better filtering?

Dont D2's have a oil cooler? If not I can see that making a differance. And I can also see it being a size differance in the oil sump.
And if it is nothing more than a larger sump than would the sump from a 4.0 D2 fit a 4.0 D1?

I would always say better filtering, in my opinion. If youdon't have it, you are just pumping fine particulates through faster...
