funny, because i've seen others on here warn against frequently switching synthetic oils.

Either people are stuck in the past (lots of misinformation out there) or just being overcautious on this forum because of all the rookies with leaky engines. As long as your truck is not leaky then switching oil is fine and can even be a good thing as switching chemistries (viscosity, additives and polarity) can help to clean out an older engine. I have not used the same synthetic motor oil in the past 1.5 years. They were all good oils with lots of ZDDP though. You may get a little seepage when you change oils as the new oil displaces the old oils from your seals.

lipad is the reason i'm running rotella.

checked around, and it is HIGHLY rated by oil peeps.

btw, this is the first time the truck has seen syn...remember, i was scared to switch to syn because the dealership said to absolutely NOT run syn unless i want leaks...

Not a leak yet...and after 500 miles i haven't still seen a noticeable drop in oil level (due to consumption).

Yeah I'm like an oil kook now, I like the chemistry aspect of it. I understand why people like to stick with the same oil but I think change once in a while can be good. Though when speaking oil you generally speaking of splitting hairs. Bottom line even with say Valvoline or pennzoil dino (solid oils) change your oil every 3000k miles and you are golden, though you may build up some varnish like I did the first 75,000 miles of dino oil.

I have seriously been considering switching to a dino diesel oil and still doing the 5k oil changes.
It is so much cheaper and diesel oil is a HD oil and in my opinion a HD oil is almost as good as a full syn.
Since I dont go 10k between oil changes and I service my truck religiously...full syn is alot of coin that I really dont have but I wont go back to 3k service intervals.

Yeah the rotella 15w-40 is good and cheap. Plus you can buy the big 3 gallon jug (or whatever the size) for $27 at walmart. That is good for 2 oil changes and will most definitely last for 5k mile intervals. Or better yet buy a 5 or 10 gallon bucket and really save some dough. That and a pureone or wix filter is a solid combo for 3 seasons. You can switch to a synthetic for the just the winter months.

Yes synthetics generally speaking flow better at colder temps. Plus winter is tough on oil with all the idling people do and cold starts. I used 5w-30 form many years and now this winter I am sticking with a 5w-40 oil. Mobil 1 0w-40 is also a good oil as is the mobil 1 5w-40.

0w-anything is way too thin.

Wasn't there someone here who was having pressure issues with zero weight oil?
