Default Goodyear Duratrac? Or Nitto Terra Grapplers?

So I am deciding on tires and I think the Duratrac is most suitable as they have been very well reviewed and are closest to an A/T tire with a very aggressive tread. I am going with 275/65/18

So the question is do I need 10ply? I understand they have a 6ply version that is less expensive and someone told me that 10ply is completely unnecessary.

You only need them if you go off road, what's the load rating?

I have them on my Chevy and they are great tires. But its a heavy truck loaded. The 10 ply E range is overkill unless you are planning on putting several thousand pounds in your rover. Plus it will be a super harsh ride off-road. Google them in the jeep forums and read all about it.

6ply is all you need and will give a better ride than a 10 ply.

I have a set and love them. Hard to break loose in the snow. Have the winter snow flake rating. You will be Not be disappointed. They will set you back about $1000 unless you can find a steal of a deal. I've done a little offroading in New Mexico. The sidewall protection comes in handy. Also they can be studded if you care about that.

You wont find that size in less than a E rating. The 10 ply will help against rock punctures. As far as the grip you will have great traction mud and snow but may have some slip on ice. They are studdable if you are in lots of winter driving.
