Default Got the Grabbers! Thrilled!

Ok guys I finally got the General Grabbers AT2s! All I can say is a am sooo happy I found an all terrain tire for an 18" rim! For a while I thought I would never find anything, and finally I came accross the General Grabbers. I got 255/60/18 and they "look" amazing compared to my old Toyo ST's. Now I cant wait to take them out to see how the preform off road. I have some pics if anyone is interested, the tread is so much more aggressive than what I used to have, I love it! By the way, they are very quiet, smooth, and didn't cost me near as much as other brand (of course they were the only ones who had 18"). They also came with a 65,000 mile warranty. Anyways, so far I recommend these tires to all you people with 18"s and not in the market to switch to 16" but still want and aggressive AT tire.

Here are some pics! (the first one is AFTER/BEFORE sorry its a bit small, the rest are bigger)

I love those tires. I was going to go with the BFG All Terrains, but I'll have to look at the Generals now. How much did you pay for them?

I just put on a set last week. I love them. I had 18" wheels and switched out to 16" with these tires. Nice look and really beefy. We'll see how they hold up.

I like the look of these tires, and the price.

I'm thinking of getting some myself, but have a question about the sizing. As usual, this will seem simplistic to those who know more, but I'm used to going to Costco and saying, "I need new tires" and leaving it at that.

I currently have Grabber STs on my Disco II, 255/65 R16, put on by the dealership where I bought my Disco.As I said, I'm just learning more about all this stuff. So this sizemeans:

Width = 255
Heigth = 65
r16 = 16-inch rim

I upgraded to OME shocks and springs, so I have a 2-inch lift on the truck now. So I'd like to fill out the wheel wells a little better but not sacrifice too much gas mileage.

I see that the Grabber AT2s are available in:

245/70 R16

and

245/75 R16

Would the 245/70 R16 tires be a good compromise? They are a little thinner and a little taller, but not dramatically different. And the price is pretty good at Tire Track online, $89 each:

Any thoughts?

I have 255/70/16 AT2s without a lift, have had them about 6 months and love them. Since the 245/70s would be smaller, why would you go with those?

All right, since you're asking, this is how it goes..... the first digit( 255) means the size of the tire measured in millimeter from the rim, around the sidewall, the tread area and sidewall again back to the rim. The second digit (65) means that the addition of theinner and outer sidewall take 65% of the first digit. That is why, the higher the second digit, the more sidewall you have and vice versa.

In other words, the second digit is the percentage of the first digit that isoccupied by the sidewalls.

They're smaller only in width, right? The height would be same as yours, at 70. Or do I have that wrong?

From what I understand, a tall skinny tire is a good fit for the Discos, and may offset some of the mpg loss?

Or, I could be completley wrong.

Darover: Thanks, that's a helpful explaination, though it means the numbers are not as straightforward as I thought.

So perhaps the 255 or 265/70TR16 size would be better?

I'd like to add just a little ground clearance and fill up the wheel well without going overboard...
