Got a P0440 What exactly needs to be repaired??? Is it something I can easily fix myself? Or do I have to take to a mechanic?

That is a opened fault indication the evap system has malfunctioned. If you are not mechanical a mechanic is in order, just not the dealer.

Leaking purge valve. Highly doubtful you have a smoke machine to properly diagnose if it is the purge valve. Recommend taking it to a mechanic with one.

Thanks guys - now does that fault code have anything to do with the scratchy acceleration sound? the engine is somewhat quite at idle, however when I accelerate it make the said sound and chokes up a bit during cruising mode.

Land Rover Charcoal / Carbon Cannister Purge Valve (Valve Only - Hoses Not Included) & Other Parts For Rovers at Atlantic British

Let the mechanic diagnose then you can order and install the part yourself (if that is what it is). Hopefully it's the purge and not the CVS unit. That part is a little more $.

I replaced the purge valve on mine and used the worm drive hose clamps. I still get the CEL light about once a month with the p0440 code. I have heard replacing the O ring on the top of the fuel pump has worked for folks. I have been too lazy to get mine smoke tested as I have not seen any drop in performance or MPG.

Thanks for the info bosshogt. I'm gonna have to get it smoke tested to avoid the guessing game as it has been somewhat frustrating and I don't want to end up spending money where its not needed. Def appreciate the input.
