Driving along in my '99 disco II today and my tac. started reving all the way up and I wasn't going any where. then My "D" and the S and M (ON THE DASH) started all blinking. I have no reverse and no drive in any gear, this is the first problem I have ever had with the tranny, can anyone help or even be able to tell me weather or not it's shot....PLEASE HELP!!

You will have to have it towed and have the codes read. The only thing that I can think of is it is out of fluid.
The only way to check the fluid level is to pull the plug on the side of the tranny and stick your finger in the hole and see if you feel any trans fluid.
I am not 100% on this for your trk, it is a DII but a early model so I would look for a dipstick under the hood first.
It should be on the pass side next to the firewall. If no dip stick then you have to pull the plug.

The transmission needs to be serviced every 30,000 miles, that means change the fluid, every 30k.
Have the fluid level checked at EVERY oil change, if you have a small leak you may not see spots on your driveway, but overtime you can run the thing out of fluid and burn it up.
Was it replaced 50k ago? Did they put in a new one or a used one?
Check your paperwork and let us know.

Hey guys I have a buddy of mine (who also happens to be the service manager at my local ford dealership) pull it into his shop and is having his tranny guy take a look at it for me, I'll let you know what I find out...keep me in mind if you hear about any tranny's for sale...and thanks a bunch for all the help so far.

My son had a problem with the vehicle not coming out of park, changed fuses and cured that problem, now engine revs on its own and drives bad in both L and H. Will have him check transmission fluid, any other items that could be electrically related to check?

I don't know about the doubl cardon thing??? but what I was told was something in the tranny snapped and when they looked at the transfer case it was covered in red fluid. I can find out exactly what happened or what they are telling me, then hopefully someone can tell me what they think...I thought it was kinda hard to destroy a transfer case
