Default My great deal becoming not so great

I posted the other day about my new 2000 disco 2 that I thought only had a O rings on the heater core has turned out to be head caskets. This car had them done by the dealership two years earlier and only 10k ago. I'm sure they will give me the middle finger if i go and bitch and if they did fix it, it will be the same ****ty job they did the last time. I know that this is a issue with these cars so I'm going to do the job myself and do it right.

So if anyone knows of a PDF file your a website that can take me through this from start to finish the help would be great.

The leak is coming out of the back passengers side of the motor. There are to hoses I see back there that there is moisture on them but they look like fuel lines to me. Not sure if those are the problem or not but doubt it.

Make sure you get the block tested to make sure it is not cracked!

Not sure how to test the block, do you have that done before you pull it apart?

if the dealer was that good you may want to check your truck with a pressure tester to be sure its head gaskets and not an intake.
most large autoparts stores will loan you one.

I would also suggest that you use ARP head studs rather than the LR tty head bolts, they worth the extra money.

remove your radiator cap, screw on the correct adapter, pump the system up to 18 psi, and see if it hold pressure for 20 minutes. if it doesn't start looking for leaks. it if it does stay at 18 psi start pulling and tugging on every hose you can find, hopefully it will stay their.

"has turned out to be head caskets."

Not sure if this was a autocorrect or otherwise not intended, but that is AWESOME and very descriptive!

"Head Caskets". I going to start using that!

if you search, you may be able to find the thread where the member in question did the headgaskets in the parking lot at his job. Complete with pictures if I remember correctly.

But dusty is correct. RAVE, a decent set of tools, and a machine shop to mill the heads, and a priest, and a ....oh , this was supposed to be encouraging. You can do it. It's not like it's a V12 twin turbo monster your rebuilding. It's a pushrod V8.

Parking lot - cost $0
Sears tool box full of tools - $300
Head gaskets - $200 or so.
Belts, valve cover gaskets, antifreeze $100
1/2 inch breaker bar
Black 5/8" socket - critical to have.

Power inverter and extra battery to work at night in parking lot.

And about two weeks of nights and one weekend.

Have at it:

Thanks for the reply, I have been working a lot lately and been every tired. I just did a miss spelling on the casket thing. Yes they are "Head Gaskets". Also my Best Friends nephew is Kenny Henry from Orange county in CA and he really want's to fix for me and he has given me a great price. I just don't think I have the time to get down to him before my ride that I have to photograph.
