Default Grabbing?

I don't even really know how to explain the problem I am having... I have a 2002 Discovery II. 102,000 miles. It recently started to feel like the front brakes are stuck on or like it doesn't come out of gear when you take your foot off the gas... Does that make sense? It drives fine, but when I'm on the raod and take my foot off the gas, instead of "coasting" like an automatic should, it feels more like when you take your foot off the gas in a manual without pushing in the clutch.

I've ordered newrotors and padsforthe front brakes. Back looks ok still.

Any ideas what this could be? We recently had a LOT of snow in Montana and I did have to use low gear a few times to get unstuck.

It also whistles when accelerating.

Mine's done the same thing since day 1.Maybe it's due to the all wheel drive???
My chevy will coast for miles, but the disco looses speed immediately...

Thanks. Yeah... the whistling doesn't bother me so much... but the fact that it fels like the front brake are on or like I'm driving a manual or ??? does. Hoping the new front brakes fix it. Ordered those yesterday from RoversNorth.com

The whistle starts around 65-70 mph.

No. Definitely not still on low. I only used that when stuck to get out. It does it all the time... I drive 30 miles each way to work and it never changes.

the fact that you are comparing the stopping to a manual with the clutch in makes me think it is the engine braking, not the brakes

if it was the brakes when you got out of the truck they would have been red hot

oh... totally forgot

get up to the speed that the problem starts, then put the car in neutral as you let go of the gas... see if it still happens

Not as noticeable with vehicle in neutral, but still not just coasting... What would cause engine brakeing like that?
