Default Gulf model induction system pictures?

Browsing through the RAVE I stumbled upon a description and illustration of the Gulf model induction system. It shows a small snorkel that gets outside air from the door frame and some sort of insulation or heat shields on top of the filter box and induction pipes. The description says this it to get cooler denser air into the engine. Does anyone have photos of this set up? I'm curious to see what they did.

I'd like to see some pics of this. Sounds similar to military hummvee type deal.

Does it look like this one? This is the MANTEC snorkel LR fitted as OEM to the D1 for the Camlel Trophy, and the D2 for the G4. It's a shame they don't make it anymore, because it is such a cleaner design than the big plastic ones that mount on the outside of the fender.

Pardon the bad customer and past. It is on page 18-2-27 of the RAVE. There is the snorkel in the wing and what is more interesting is the induction system with the heat reflective insulation. In addition to the secondary air duct, the vehicles are fitted with a larger front grille and have larger cooling and condenser fans.

The MAF/IAT sensor, air cleaner and air cleaner duct are encased in insulation bags to help keep the intake air cool and so increase the mass of air entering the engine intake manifold.

The air cleaner includes a cyclone filter and also a dump valve in the bottom of the unit. Sand and dust particles which are carried into the air cleaner with the air flow are automatically expunged via the dump valve.

I agree is it cleaner. I'm thinking about getting the Southdown which looks close to the MANTEC. It just makes so much sense here in Florida.

Where did you find that? So it looks like a metal heat shield.

robertf: Did the manual provide part numbers for those pieces?

Not exactly what I was invisioning but still interesting. You could probably accomplish the same effect by applying gold reflective tape or something similar to the intake tube and airbox. For the duct you basically just make a half snorkel, but you might as well make or buy a full one at that point anyway. It would be cool to have the part numbers though, I wouldn't mind having a setup like this in the deep south.

I worked in Kuwait a few years back and believe me when I say it gets STUPID hot. Stick your head in an oven or point a blow dryer at your face and that's basically what it's like there. Humidity usually comes around in the early morning, rest of the day is extremely dry. You need every bit of help you can get keeping cars cool there.
