Every gallon of water helps, it all adds up, 2 nickels make a dime kinda thing.

Here is what I do, I collect empty oil bottles from the quick lube when I get the oil changed in my work van and I drain them into one oil bottle and then I use that to add to my van when it needs it, that way the bottles are void of any oil and only the plastic bottle goes into the trash.
Take one "empty" bottle and stick a funnel in it, turn another "empty" bottle upside down in the funnel and let it drain for 24 hours, next bottle, out of 18"empty" quarts I got 2 full quarts of clean motor oil.

Do a search in your area for a "waste to engery" facility, they burn garage and make electricity with steam, there is one here in Grand Rapids and we use a garbage company that takes their waste there.
Its not perfect but its better than a land fill where it will sit forever.

Now that is hard-core.

Well we can look at it two ways...

1-one quart of oil will ruin 1 million gallons of fresh water, so those 2 quarts of oil will ruin 2 million gallons of drinking water when they leach into the ground.

2-I saved $6 on 2 quarts of motor oil, and I go though ALOT of motor oil in my van.
(a quart a day if I use 5w-30, a qt every 2 days for 10w-30, every 2-3 if I use 10w-40 and a quart every 2-3,000 miles if I use 15w-40 [this is on 5,000 mile oil change intervals using dino oil], thats every 6 wks or so that I get a oil change)

So as a Demacrat you are saving 2 million gallons of drinking water and as a Republican you save $6.
See, it works both ways.

The best thing to do is to fix what is causing all the oil loss.

You mean replace the perfectly good 221,000 mile engine?
My van runs for 8 hours a day 5 days a weeks, fully loaded stop and go, summer heat with the A/C on full...its just the way it is.

I have a roof rack and an OME 2 inch lift so I hand wash mine every few months or so. We just went through the spring pollen season so there was no point in washing it as it would be covered in yellow dust within an hour or so. Once a year I treat myself by taking it to a small detail shop where they hand wash it and put a nice coat of wax on it.

As for parking garages, I don't go in unless I know it will fit. Some garages have a large vehicle area so I always inquire. But always be cautious. I once parked at the Marta Doriville station in NE Atlanta because they had a sign at the entrance that said there was an 8 foot clearance but found out when I was exiting that the exit had one of those big hanging bars at 7 feet which I nudged with my rack.

And if I vallet park at a restaurant I always tell them that it can not fit in any garage where the clearance is low. They usually park me up front with all of the Merceded and BMWs!
