Default Has anyone replaced/soldered new micro switches on to your remote?

I ordered a new uncut key with 4 new micro switches yesterday. Both my micro-switches are missing from my key, the only way I can actuate the remote to lock or unlock my D2 is to bridge the contact points on the remote circuit board with something like a small screw driver.

Has anyone soldered new micro-switches on to your key remote circuit board?

Every time I try soldering something on a circuit board,.....I end up melting/damaging the board and not successfully soldering whatever I was trying to solder.

Any feedback/tips on this?

One of the contacts on my unlock switch broke a few years ago. Using electrical tape to secure the switch to the board only worked for a short time (as do some redneck repairs). I finally fixed it properly by re-soldering it. I used a pen style soldering gun as you can get more precision with them compared to the pistol looking ones.

Let the tip heat up until it just starts to melt solder when applied. Touch the tip to the board and hold it there for a bit to get the contact point hot enough for the solder to melt onto. Then apply the solder to the contact point, making sure the switch lead is immersed in the molten solder.

Might help to practise a bit on a piece of random metal to get the technique right.

I did that. Lasted 3 days, but that's because I am no good at soldering
