Default Have Resources Now What Should I Do?

Being a senior in high school we have the option to be taken to the vocational center everyday for a variety of different class's. I took the automotive program and now have the chance to bring my car in and do work on it and be supervised by and ASE-technician. Aside from the teacher not liking my car as its foreign, and could not be lifted by the four point lift. I think it would be a good way for me to do some things to my Disco.

So my questions are what sorts of things should I do to my Disco that would be beneficial and prolong the car.

Some of the things I was thinking of doing were a transmission fluid change but I wasnt sure how hard it would be. Also our teacher has the machine where you splice one of the lines and it sucks the dirty fluid out and pumps clean fluid in but he wasn't sure if it would work with a land rover or not.

My brake light flash's on and off when I drive, I need new front breaks and rotors but Farm and Fleet quoted me a price a few weeks ago that is almost as low as what the parts cost.

He has a high end scanner, I'm wondering if it will clear my SRS light codes.

What other things do you recommend. I typically have about an hour and a half to work on the car each day but there are two other people working on the car with me.

My teacher is extremely smart but at the same time very strict, and can be crabby. He really wants you to figure things out on your own, and will give suggestions occasionally but if you ask him the wrong thing you can get more than you bargained for. I feel that I am learning alot, but I know that he really does not like my car and so I dont want to ask to many questions and push his buttons.

BTW you really can not lift a discovery II on a lift or can you? The book he had said Land Rover products of America are not recommended to be used on any type of 4 point lift, use a drive on lift instead.

if i were you i would flush and fill every fluid on the rig,,,

oil, power steering, tranny, diffs, T-case, brake fluid, coolant.

then i would do your brakes. use good quality parts on your brakes. not cheap auto store parts. you will spend half as much but they will wear out in half as much time.

if your belt needs to be swapped do that.

also check the condition of your plugs and wires. if need be, swap those.

there is a nice list for you and i just spent nearly 800 bucks for you =)

your SLS light code will come back. at your mileage the airbag system or wiring has gone south and needs some kind of repair. mine is on and it is a seatbelt sensor. i just live with it for now.

For your SRS light buckle and unbuckle your passenger seat belt a dozen times or so.
See if it goes out then, if not then look into the wire harness on the seat belt pretensioner, it gets loose and sets off the light.
The passenger seat belt buckle gets dirty from lack of use and then sets off the light.
