Folks, I'm swapping out my 2003-4 1-piece fan (PGG000080) with the earlier 2-piece fan (ERR4960) from salvage. The Hayden 2781 fan clutch I ordered is in now in my hands. This fan clutch has perfectly aligned bolt holes (SAE 5/16-18 threads but whatever) but I'm surprised to discover that it is 182mm in diameter. The old fan clutch and the fan's center hub diameters are 163 mm.
Which of these statements is true, then?
I've misunderstood the numerous threads I've read through here; this fan clutch works only when paired with the Dorman 620-112 fan and does NOT work with the LR ERR4960 fan.
I use the Hayden 2991 fan clutch & 620-112 fan blade (2991 also works in the OEM 99-02 fan blade. Last time I tried the other fan clutch it was redesigned or something as it did not fit.
Wow, I literally just came inside from doing this conversion. As stated, the Hayden fan clutch, 2781 and the Dorman fan blade assembly # 620-112 bolt together and replace the entire OEM fan/clutch assembly. You’ll need 4 5/16x18 bolts, about 1/2 deep.Got the parts from Rock Auto.
+1 for the Dorman. I think it's a better fan, fits perfectly, new and cheap. Using a salvage OEM fan is risky as they get brittle and flimsy compared to the Dorman. Inspect the salvage fan closely, they can have small unseen stress cracks.
The fan clutch that seems to be hit or miss via the auto parts supplier = the Dodge Dakota/Durango unit. The US Motor works 22151 unit will work, but the other model listed for the same vehicle = is like the one pictured by the OP and it will not work.

does this fan and clutch help cool it better or is the biggest benefit the fact that it's so much cheaper yet fits? $60 plus shipping for both is hard to beat. My fan and clutch seem to be fine, but I might just go ahead and swap them out if it's a big upgrade. it's about to start really getting hot here in Nashville.
Watch for stress cracks on the Dorman as well. I just replaced the Dorman installed by previous owner as it was starting to crack at the base of the fins.

hello friend i have a question for you i currently have a discovery 03 with 74k in maintenance mode and looking for better temperatures here in south florida i decided to change the radiator for a nessesen, new water pump, all the bearings on the belt as well like the serpentine belt, a 180 inline thermostat, the engine has a new oil pump and many other things, I don't want to hear the famous click click of a hot record it's my toy. and the only thing that I have not changed is the fan or the clouch. What do you recommend me? all of put new the same day ran coolant zerex G05.
the truck is new in my hands that's why I make those modifications.
My question should I change the fan blade and the clutch in order to optimize the performance and temperature of the engine...?
Do you have something like an Ultragauge or Scangauge OBD reader to monitor your coolant temp? I suggest getting one so that you have a baseline of your coolant temp.
Then read this to determine if the Hayden clutch and Doorman fan blade is necessary:
