Default hazard lights when hitting a hard bump

so my hazard lights come on whenever i hit a hard bump in the road in my D1 and the only way to get them to go off is to turn the truck off and then back on... what do i cut/unplug/burn/shoot to make this stop happening... it is the most irritating thing in the world to me... it happens sometimes like 2 or 4 times a day depending on where i am going... its killin me

My 98 Disco used to do that. However I never bothered to pay someone to look at it. Sorry!

Pretty sure it is your inertia switch. Under the hood, little button by the washer reservoir. If it trips a little, it will flash hazards. If it trips hard, it cuts the fuel pump. Cut it out and you will loose the safety cutout for the pump.

Mine does it too, but it has to be a hard hit. Doesn't happen often enough to try ti fix. Nice to see that I'm not alone on that one, it really concerned me when it first happened!

It is an inertia switch but in the ECU: see owner manual p17 in RAVE and p805 of the workshop manual:

Mine went on after going over a rough railroad crossing. You can hear the ticking in the ECU box. If it happens to easily, one may want to check if the ECU is still well secured.
