Head Gasket job complete.. Truck no runny??? Need Help
I did the head gasket overhaul and and replaced everything and all went back together as I took it apart.. But for some reason I am getting spark and fuel to the cylinders but no fire except and occasional boom that sounds like it's down in the header.. I pulled the plugs and they are in good condition but are wet with gas.. I checked the wires and made sure they are not crossed and I am getting good spark at the caps.. IS THERE A CHANCE THAT I FOR SOME REASON COULD HAVE RE-INSTALLED THE IGNITION COIL BACKWARDS?? I am pretty sure it mounted up right but it's the only thing I can think of that would keep the truck from firing. I have gas and spark, but if for some reason I could have put the IM in reversed?? All of the wire's would still run the same from the IM to the plugs so that would not be an indication, is there a way to tell if it is mounted up side down or backwards??
Sorry this thread came up twice, I have internet issues at the moment... It doesn't backfire as much as it's just a subtle thump sound.. With spark and gas, is there something else that could make the truck not even sputter or start? It's make no effort to run at all.. Not even an indication that it may run for a second... Totally dead, motor just spins over and occasionally is will make a skip and hesitation but then right back to nothing.. I am lost on this.. I know with my older jeeps and trucks that if I have gas and spark I could make it run, this Disco is beyond me..
Well because you have spark your crank sensor is good.
I am thinking you have something amis with your plug wires, a Disco is no different than any other car or truck, gas and spark and she'll run.
If your MAF is not hooked up right this will cause run issues.
It is something simple and stupid but we just need to find it.

"THE TRUCK NO RUNNY"????????????????
Exactly what parts did you replace, be specific?
How many miles on your engine, are you running new or old wires and who's are they?Did you remove your coils, how about the timing chain? Did you remove the CPS?

The plugs and wires are good because they were fine when the head gasket blew.. They weren't the reason the truck stopped running. It's an 04 Disco II with 102k on it. I replaced the head gasket and in the process removed the intake, alternator, A/C compressor and air intake plumbing. All of it mounted back in reverse of removal and all wire conections plugged back up right.. I even popped the air intake away from the intake where the butterfly is and shot some starting fluid in there, let it sit for a couple seconds, hit the ignition and not so much as a sneeze from the engine.
There is one wire that was severed on the front of the engine. It's kind of like a coaxial cable instead of a normal wire with wound wires inside. I am not sure what it goes to but I did splice and repair it.
I did not remove the timing chain or cover, the front of the block was left alone minus the A/C and Alt..
The coil pack was removed as a whole unit with wires intact, but I don't think I paid a whole lot of attention when I put it back in but it is mounted/bolted down. That's the only reason I would think that is it. Everything else popped right back in so I know all of the other stuff should be OK..

Okay.......I'll jump in now. Assuming your plug wires are installed correctly and you didn't foul something up with the injector harness upon re-installation...........it sounds like one or more of the sensors are not communicating with the ECU. Look at everything again. My truck acted the SAME way as you describe once when I disconnected the ECU to do some welding and didnt have the connector plugged in all the way when I was done.
Well I stripped off the risers from the intake and pulled the IM out. Reset all the plug wires in the coils, then set it back behind the engine. Carefully routed each plug wire to it's correct cylinder and made sure they are all seated correctly. Then put the engine back together in a very methodical manner as to make sure that nothing was overlooked and I also checked everything while I had the topside partially taken apart. Everything is in check and all connections are good. I pulled the fuel rail off and replaced all the rubber o-rings on the injectors and cleaned off the outside of the injectors with carb spray. Got everything put back together and found out that I killed the battery in the process. Waiting for it to charge and will try to start it again tonight.
