Default HEAD GASKET REPAIR - Shop List ...Thought???

So I'm in Florida and here is the bill I got from the Land Rover repair shop... Does this all sound correct to you or should I just get the parts myself and have them do the labor... Open forum and open opinions welcome!!!

i don't really understand your question but lets give it a try.
you have $5-600 in parts and another $2-300 in machine work.
so do you want to save $1200 and do it yourself

Due to circumstances, I do not have the ability to do it myself.

I think he is having the shop do the work in any event. He is asking if the parts costs are inflated, or should he source them seperate and take them in.

Even if they are, i would let the garage source the parts. It will save them blaming 'your' parts if/when there is a problem after the work.

As a rule, is $2.2k about the going rate for parts and labour? I'm at 97,000 miles. Orig gaskets.

That is the going price for a HG job out here in the PNW...

But for that price I also got all new coolant hoses and new premium ignition wires AND spark plugs.

However I would not trust any Land Rover shop that wants to put 5w30 oil in your truck.

And the $40 thermostat is not going to be the OEM LR 180° model.

Is this an actual independent Land Rover only shop or a foreign car shop with a "land rover guy?"

I wouldn't trust that place.

You need to ask if the shop will ALLOW you to supply your own parts. Some will say, "Do you take your own steak to a restaurant and expect them to cook it?".

I actually DID supply my own parts for my oil pump/timing chain/cover job, because I insisted on using all OEM parts. The shop owner was surprised ALL the parts were genuine LR and had no problem using them or standing behind his work. Start bringing in Chinese aftermarket stuff and it will be an entirely different story.

BTW...are they doing BOTH cylinder heads? Should be 20 (10 each head) bolts for both heads, not 6.

x1 it's a big risk 'free issuing' parts for a garage to fix on a labour only basis. If anything goes wrong afterwards they will inevitably blame the parts issued whereas if they source the parts and install them there is no discrepency over who is responsible for any errors or bad workmanship. Also they may not guarantee the work at all if the parts are 'free issued'.

good price on the heads, where in Florida are you? I could help you if you want to save some cash. just did my heads awhile back The price of the HG Kit should be with new bolts. I paid around that for everything and new exhaust manifold + rocker cover bolts from Miami British, (next day free delivery for us in Florida.) Stay away from that cheapo T- stat, splurge on the OEM one. radiator can be got too for a little less.
