Headers on a Disco II

Headers on a Disco II
I finallt bit the bullet and ordered a set of Headman's 39800 headers. The RRC uses the same stock headers and the chassis has the same dimensions, so i figured, why not. I took off the old Y-pipe and headers. It was a tight fit getting the right-hand header into place from the top, but a little force past the frame and starter heat shield. I reused 6 of the 8 manifold bolts and used two of the shorter ones that came with the headers because the longer stock ones hit the pipe. The left-hand header was a bit more difficult and I ended lifting the engine about 2-3 inches after removing the lower engine mount bolt. That let the header slip into place. I had to bang the heat shield out a little around the knock sensor, and its pretty close, but oh well. I drove to a local exhaust shop and had them reuse the cats and some of the Y-pipe. The passenger side cat was the biggest pain, but we worked it out. Total cost: $177.?? for headers shipped, $125 for the rest of the exhaust work. Sorry I don't have any pictures right now, but I will post them as soon as I can.
Edit: I used the paper gaskets that came with the headers. That was a bit mistake. Use the Land Rover metal ones with some sealer, I am going to have to do that soon.

RE: Headers on a Disco II
Headers are a nice touch, but the engine as it exists needs to get more air thru it to give you that extra punch we would all like to obtain. Need to open up the heads, install a larger breathing cam and then of course a cat back to push all the extra air thru.
Let us know how yours works out.

RE: Headers on a Disco II
The top end is much better! Down low, there isn't mush of a difference. The stock Y-pipe ends are fairly small and restrictive. The headers allow much better flow but not low down where the restriction wasn't a real problem. Overall I am very happy wit the way this turned out. Also, the headers didn't have a problem with the steering shaft as someone thought may be a problem.
Here is one picture, I will post again with the rest of them.
