Default Headlamps - Overwattage

I'm wondering what people have tried for higher wattage headlamps. I have a set of Ralley 4000's as well that I wouldn't mind going over 100W in if there's something available. At what point should I upgrade the harness to handle the higher wattage? Any tricks to get the fog lights and high beams to come on at the same time? (haven't actually looked at doing this yet but it would be handy).

I'm assuming going from 55w to 70w would be ok, but what about 70w lows and 100w highs?

Just run your fog lights on a separate switch.

I think others have upgraded to that wattage on the existing wiring without issues. I even think Disco Mike has done this if even remember correctly from a previous post.

So, I am confused, are you wanting to bump the wattage of your head lights or the Ralley 4000's or both?

I run PIAA Platinum White 80/80W H4in main lightsand Silverstar 55W H1 in fog beams. Regarding the fog lights, on Disco I it was an easy task to run a jump wire under the dash to keep the fog lights On along with the high beams. On Disco II, I have not taken the time to figure it out yet, but I know one thing, it is not as easy as on Disco I.

I want to add: The DiscoI and II headlights are plastic......and.......as all plastics do, the have limitation how much heat they can discipitate, which means 130W capsuleswould be probably too much to run, specially over extended periods of time.

Mike, your signature lists HID's. Which make do you have, and are they Bi-Xenon, or have you lost your high beams ?

I have 3 separate HID's made by ACRO Lighting. They are equal in power to the Hellas HID but about hald the price and come as all one unit, so you don't have a separate ballast and heater to fire them up. Takes 15 watts to fire then up, then after about 45 seconds the drop to 3 watts each, which is great.

I will look into that. I have converted my'97 E320and my two motorcycles, allafterhavingexperienced our'04 E320 with Hella OEM HID. The only lagger now is theDisco, but not for too long. We have the technology now available, and HID is the "must have", at least for me

The 'electrical problems' were tracked down to one bad ground terminal, it's all good now. The goal now is to continue with the upgrades.
