heated windshield, need favor !
Greetings guys, I need a favor.... Since I got my Disco, I found that the heated windshield did not do its job. When the vehicle is idling and you press the heated windshield button, the light turns on and I can hear the strain on the engine. Unfortunately, nothing happens and no defrosting takes place...AT ALL !!
So I decided to check in the dash and pulled out the switch. I unclipped it to make sure that all pins where pushed in, packed the connection with dielectric grease and re-installed.
Then I opened the hood and unsnapped the connection and noticed something that got me puzzled. I know that the windshield was just replaced before my purchase and I bought it in December, so the previuos owner most likely never had a chance to find that it didn't defrost anymore.
Here's what I found: Althought that at the connection, both plastic parts ( from the vehicle and the windshield) snap in together perfectly, both connection have a male connector ????? which of course tells me why it doesn't work. The connector part from my Disco has the male 'flat pin' and the windshield part has the same thing.
So I would need one of you Disco friend to go unplug the windshield and tell me if the windshield part of the connector has a male or female connector. Cause maybe they are meant to just slide one on anotherand I'm climbing up the wrong tree.
Thanks for taking the time for this,
Darover

Do you think maybe they installed the wrong windshield?
Can you buy/jerry rig a female/female connector to connect the two?
Or maybe call your insurance company and just get a new one because yours is cracked?
This is of course depending onif comes through with the answer you are looking for or not.

Well, not sure how they could have installed the wrong windshield ?!? It fits perfect, doesn't leak and the connection clics together perfectly. the only odd thing, as I said...is that the windshield part has a male connector just like the part from the Disco. So I'm questionning the possibility that it is meant to be a slide on on connection rather than a male female type.
That is why I would like someone with a working heated windshield to take 2 minutes and unsnap the connection to see what kind of connection they have.

I don't have a heated windshield, but the D2 appears to be wired with it. Here is what I have under the hood.

Actually urban Panzer, all I need to know is what kind of connector does the windshield part have ??? Is it a regular female type, or a very thin looking male type ???
Well, yes and no[:@]It helps cause that is the answer I was looking for, but it doesn't help cause I guess its normal and doesn't explain why my darn windshiled doesn't heat up.
As said, when I push the switch, the light in the switch comes on and I can feel a strain on the engine at idle. But nothing happens !!!! even a very thin film of fog doesn't go away. I need to activate the blower fan for that.
btw, thanks for takimg the time to look this up. I guess I was climbing up the wrong tree!!!!
Owe you one.
