Default Heated Windshield Question???

Hello....I have an 01 disco II SE...I have a heated windshield and the wires below the windshield above the firewall, they are connected....
But, I do not have the button on the dash to turn it on...did Land Rover put these windshields on non heated vehicles....and if so, what would it require to hook it up and make it function.....Thanks[/align]

It is automatic. It heats when it "senses" that it needs to be.

Meheadhunter, I have the exact model you have and I have a button to activate it. Thereare two buttons in the middle of the dash at the bottom, One is for the back window and one for the front. They are the defrost looking buttons.

When you first start the truck, hit the button and within a minute you should start to see it working. Hope this helps a little.

^+1 There is a special switch for it, looks like the rear defrost, and plugs in above it except the pictogram is rounded (like the windscreen picture on the wipers). Your windscreen may have been a replacement. Either way, it will work if you add the switch. You will most likely need to add the relay in the engine compartment fuse box as well (number 8 I think, could be wrong) anyway it is one of the black relays and is ~$17 from the dealer. Good luck!

Speaking about the heated windscreen...I'm SUPER paranoid about catching a rock in this windshield? I haven't replaced it yet but just looking at it gives me the impression that it's expensive! I have no bones about pulling over the truck that puts a rock into my windshield!

Has anyone had theirs replaced before? What was the price tag? I don't suppose you go to your nearest Novis or auto windshield place to have that one replaced?

Cheers,

cpb

$812.59 with Diamond Auto glass. Had mine replaced due to chips from other vehicles. My insurance company paid it (with no claim or rate hike) 100%.

Had mine replaced and it was 800 something, out of a place in the yellow pages. State Farm footed the whole bill.

Yes, fleet price is $750 for the heated, $350 for the non-heated.

Ditto for me with State Farm -- my agent set up the whole process for me and it was done in my driveway.
