Heated windshield question.

Heated windshield question.
I took a short celebratory drive in my newly cleaned-up Disco the other day, only to collect an ugly little stone chip in my heated windshield within the first mile. Ugly is the only word that applies.
While I have little trouble with most of the mechanical issues that the truck presents, I lose confidence pretty quickly when matters turn to the electrical, so I have no idea if there's any damage to the filaments in the windshield and not a clue as to how to find out.
Is there a simple means of testing the continuity of that system? If all still works I'll just have the chip repaired, but if not, I may be looking at a new windshield.
Any assistance on this little issue will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Disconnect the windshield at each of the two connectors and then attach an ohmmeter to read the resistance on each side. If the resistance reads the same on both sides you're probably okay, but I don't have any idea whether or not the windshield repair would later damage the heating elements.

I would like to add a heated windsheild to my 04 SE 5 passenger.
I understand the ecu needs flashed in order for it to work.
Will any of the aftermarket LR code readers do this?
Is there a switch on the dash that controls it? There are a couple blanks on both sides of the gages.
Or, does it come on automatically with the defroster?
Thanks

Thank you!
Now I need to check and see if the switch's plug is in the wiring harness, since it didn't come factory with the heated windshield.
The plugs are under the cowl on each side, so hopefully the switch plug is there too.

It's not quite correct to say the ECU needs to be flashed in order to make a heated windshield work. It's a setting that needs to be changed, probably in the BCU (body control unit), and no, lower cost code readers can't do it.
There are a lot of threads on this forum about diagnostic tools. I suggest you do some searching and ask your follow-up questions in those threads.

Last time I got the aftermarket heated windshield. One day later I got hit by a huge golf ball size rock flying off the back tire of a large truck. I decided screw it, not going to pay another glass deductible ($250.)
It has taken a few years but the spider web has extended both vertically and horizontally now and only like about an inch of vertical elements are not working... it is on the right passenger side so no impact on visibility... Most of the elements still work though.
You won't know until it actually freezes or you can somehow fog up your windshield in the summer heat but odds are good it will work for quite a while.

The problem is that I get no results...until I post a thread.
Then I get links to similiar topics at the bottom of the page.
