Default Heaters

Hi,
I've recently bought a 93 Discovery and I'm getting no heat from the heaters! does anyone know how easy it is to flush out the heater matrix?

Cheers.
Dan.

First check your coolant level, if that is good then replace your thermostat.
What does your temp gauge read? What engine do you have?

its a 93 V83.9 with LPG conversion. would the LPG conversion effect the heating system at all?
The temp gauge always reads a constant slightly less than middle gauge reading.
where is the thermostat located please?

Cheers.

No the LPG will have no affect on the engine temp.
You need a new thermostat, follow the upper radiator hose back to the engine, there is a "goose neck" and the t-stat is in there.
Make sure that you take note of the direction the old one is facing so that you do not install the new one backwards.
The temp needle is supposed to be dead middle of the gauge.

OK thanks for the advise.
Not sure if this isa stupid question, but what do you mean by goose neck?
And another, is this the same thermostats that controls the radiator fans?
Does anyone have pictures with big arrows pointing to all the important parts of the V8 Engine or is there any on the web somewhere?
Cheers.

Is the operating temperature hotter than normal?
If so, you need a water pump. Mine went out in the Defender at 80,000 miles. Same motor as you.

Hear is your "goose neck"

Here is your thermostat.

And here is your t-stat gasket.

The thermostat controls engine temp, if the engine runs to cold you will get less miles per gallon and shorter engine life.
The temp sensor that controls your electric engine fan is a different unit.
The clutch fan runs the whole time the engine is running and the electric fan comes on when the A/C is on or the engine is in a overheat situation.

Right I've changed the Thermostat and flushed out the radiator and engine and replaced with 40/60 coolant water as it says in the book.
Now the needle seems to sit dead middle (so maybe there was something wrong with the old t-stat).
But the heaters still don't pipe out hot air.
The previous owner told me to specifically only flush out the heater matrix as his had air blocks in there before.
So I will try to do that this time?
Cheers.
Dan.
