Hello and Help, please
Good day all, I owned a 2002 D2 from 05 to 09. got ride of it before some major repairs set in. Now I am looking at another 2002 HSE7 with 106'sih miles on it. Engine was just rebuilt 50 miles ago by a land rover technician. the owner is asking 6900 but willing to negotiate. It has the original transmission. The rear sags after a few days of sitting, the owner does not have a lot of answers to my questions and always refers to the tech who worked on it. I really want a D2 but don't want to walk into a money pit. Any advice on what to look for as far a failing parts that would turn into immediate repairs. i am looking for something that will be a reliable around the town car within the next year and after that it will turn into my weekend toy. Anything advise is helpful.

Is it reliable? Maybe.
If u do your own maintenance and can wrench, it can be a daily driver, but you’ll want records of fluids etc., or immediately do all of them, and install the inline thermostat mod or new 180 degree.
Get a price for new bags and a tech to fix the rear airbags and take that off the price.
Check rear frame rails for rust.
Het a scangauge/ultragauge/Bluetooth obdII tool and check for codes and monitor the driving temps.
Try to get permission to do a coolant pressure test, and compression test.
The truck is not worth any where near that much IMO.
An original motor is NOT the most desirable condition, a sleeved remanned motor is.
good luck.

You can tell if you have a Discovery II that isn't an unreliable money pit from the Jeep logo on the front.
In seriousness, many problems can be avoided by simply checking and swapping the fluids on a regular basis.
Check the conditions of all the rubber hoses and replace as necessary.
Expect gremlins in your electrics, but if your definition of reliable is "does it still run and drive," these probably won't be as much of an issue.
Failure of the front propshaft due to lack of a grease nipple is a commonly reported problem. Consider replacing this proactively.

Ask yourself the big question why after paying for a rebuild of the engine, then putting only 50 miles on it would he sell it. He has spent a few 1000 dollars to only to sell the truck, it makes no sense.
To me that is a huge red flag, there is something else going on with that truck.
As to price where are you located in my part of the world that is average for a good clean 03 or 04 D2 with no issues. One with any kind of problems around 3000 or less depending on the issues

If it’s super clean 5500, and it can be as reliable as you make it. Look thru my post on here & you won’t find a single it’s dead & I’m selling it. I have 3 D2’s and each one is extremely reliable! My wife’s LR3 has had way more issues vs any of the RRC/D1/D2’s I’ve owned.
Prices for clean D2’s are on the rise.
