Default Help! 1999 Disco Series 11 - Few problems

Hi everybody

New to this and also new to Land Rover!

Just brought a 99 Disco series 11 and have noticed a few this out of the normal in the last few days.

1. On start up and acel a funny sort of bubbling noise is comming from behind the dash? Could this be related to the cooling system or air con?

2. First trip out into the sand a few days ago, after about 30mins in the sand we can to cross a road, i stopped, looked down and saw the green 'M' and 'S' symbols flashing on the dash as well as the red lights either side of the drive symbol on the gear shift. I have no books or manuals so im not sure what this is?

Any input would be much appreciated, thank you in advance!

The bubbling sound behind the dash is air in the heater core. Check your coolant level in the tank. If low top it off. You need to bleed the cooling system to get all the air out. You also need to find out where your coolant is going.

Flashing M and S is your transmission going into limp mode. This is usually caused by low battery voltage. Since this happened while you were driving I would suspect your alternator is either dying or dead. Pull your alternator out and take it to an auto parts store that bench tests alternators. If the alternator is good then my next thought is a bad battery.

Click on the link and download the RAVE manual for your vehicle. It is the LR repair manual.

You should be able to pick up a 1999 Owner's Manual off ebay for about 25 bucks. My 2000 came from the factory with a 1999 manual ( I have the letter from Rover explaining this) and I just picked up a 2000 so I had the correct one also. It was under $30 shipped.

The owners manual won't help with these issues.
PM me your tele number and I'll be glad to call you and walk you thru what to do.

Default 1999 manual is the 2000 Manual?

i just bought a 2000 Disco2 and got a 1999 Manual with it. The "Passport to Service" book has the correct VIN number, so I'm guess it's correct. Did LR save some money on printing? New to Land Rover, but I think I read somewhere that the only big difference in the 99 - 2000 is the compass in the review mirror?... or was that a joke?
