Default Help with 2000 Discovery starting problem

Hello All,

i have a 2000 Discovery II that i have been driving for almost 2 1/2 years. All is fine until recently my power steering pump went out twice. was too cheap to have it replace again so i bypass the ACE (active corner enhancement) by using a shorter serpentine belt. Thing went well for about 4 month. i was driving recently when the car came to a stop. sport mode and manual mode light came on. stay with the vehicle for a little bit and started the car and drove it for about 8-10 miles before it came to a stop. when i turn the car you could hear it wanting to turn but wouldn't.i had to have the car towed home and it been sitting in my garage since then. here is what i have done so far

1. got a new battery from autozone
2. change all spark plugs and wires
3. reset the fuel shut off injector and it started but could not run long.
4. did the old method of using starting fluid and it would turn and start but would cut off if driven for more than 1 mile.

my guess is that its a fuel problem but i could be wrong. i also brought a cheap OBD II reader and got a code P1884. any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the fuel pump has gone out.
That code dosent have any meaning.

Thanks Spike555. I did a quick search online for prices on fuel pump and notice that it runs anywhere around $250-$450. Is there a way to test if the pump is working before investing that amount of money on a pump and find out its not the problem? i search this forum and found out that you could turn on the car and go to the rear of the vehicle and hear the pump working. i did that and heard it .also when i open the hood and turn on the car, i could hear a humming sound by the other end of the MAF pipe going to some kind of a stationary pipe by the manifold intake.
thanks

Your fuel pump might be weak and when it gets hot it shuts down. It could also be a bad relay for the fuel pump.
I am not sure how to check the relay though or where it is located.

I am having the same issue. I have a 99 Disco II it will run for 10-15min then just die. I will wait 30Min and it will restart, and starts the presses all over again. I can hear the fuel pump running when in back of the truck. I ran the codes and pulled P1590, PO440 and PO335.

That last code is for your crank sensor. If your crank sensor is bad then the truck wont run.
I cannot find those other two codes.

Replace your crank sensor. M and S lights came on? Check trans fault codes and you probably have an engine speed input signal fault logged.

Or, you can have a weak battery/alternator, which can cause the M&S to flash, tranny to have a hard shift problem, starting and stall problems.
