Default help with abs fault codes

Hi everyone. I am looking for a little help with some abs codes and what my next move should be on this rover.

I have been reading posts on here for a month and have gained a wealth of information from some of you. I greatly appreciate that. I have a couple questions for you.

First off, I did repair option B and also put in new wabco switches and did shuttle valve rebuild with new o rings and clips as the amigos have been on for awhile. The rover dealer quoted me $3000 for a new modulator, then I found this site. I am experienced in mechanics. I also put in new front brakes and rotors. While the rotors were off I pulled out abs sensors and cleaned them. Everything looked good. Put it all back together cleared the codes, shut off the three amigos and drove it 100 yards and they came back on. I did this twice.

On the abs amigo, my top set of faults says current faults, then no active faults, logged faults say 044 front right sensor output low, also 046 front left output low. Lower on the sheet are previous faults. 022 ecu ground or reference ground bad, front right sensor bad output, front left sensor bad output, and shuttle valve electric failure.

My question is, are the two wheel sensor faults, 044 and 046 the faults that are tripping the three amigos because they are my current faults? If so what do I do now? Replace sensors?

2nd question, did I fix the modulator as those codes are under previous faults and are not under current faults. Are they the initial faults?

I also bled all brakes, flushed them dot4, and the brakes do not squeak at all. The lights came on while accelerating, not while braking. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Go to RSWsolutions and get a print out of the fault codes and testing procedure.

I went to rsw found the fault codes, it says to check for continuity at electrical connections, or investigate sensor. The sensors looked fine. Is there a procedure to checking for continuity on the site that I missed?

Yes, on the Rave CD or any shop manual.

The amigo should have cleared the faults. Drive it a bit and see if the lights come back. Whatever code comes back is the one I would handle first. It will probably be that shuttle valve switch electrical failure.

Drove it and reset it three times, I can only go 100 yards and they come back on. All three times it was left and right speed sensor low output, evidently I did fix the modulator and shuttle valve problem. I guess I will have to check the sensor resistance at the plug. I have the rave manual downloaded somewhere. I will look there also to see what they say.

I am actually relieved, I was going to be unhappy if I rebuilt that modulator only to find it still giving faults.

Sorry! I missed the part where you said you already fixed the modulator. The speed sensor could be that it's not seated well, it could be bad, it could have bad or corroded connectors, or it could be the hub is bad.

I did take out the sensors. They looked good. The splines in the hub looked ok to. I'm assuming my next step is to check the resistance on the sensors per the rsw website. The amigos have been on for a couple years.

I checked the sensor resistance at the plug going into the slabs unit. I get 1000 ohms for both. Is there something that I may have done to the sensors when I took them out and cleaned them? I did pull out the o ring and I slid it over the sensor shaft when it was seated in the hub. Is this my problem? Should I have seated it back in the hub? Seems odd that I am now getting the same readings. I had to have f'd up somewhere.

I did, I did f up something when I put them back in. I took them out and cleaned them, put the o ring in the hub, anti seized the sensor per the instructions and ding dong the amigos seem to be dead. Hopefully they stay that way. Thanks to everyone on this site for your information. The amigos have been on for over 4 years. Finally after reading everything on this site, I figured it was time to tackle the job along with the brakes. Thanks again.
