Default Help. Broke down. Alternator?

I'm broke down on the side of the road with 5 kids in 6" of snow. Battery symbol light came on and a bit later m-s lights began flashing as well as the other lights. Vehicle is dead now and won't turn over. I assume I'm looking at a classic alternator failure . Anything to check to verify? Fuses in underhood box seem fine.

Classic alternator. Do you have a multimeter?

Sounds like the alternator. Do the headlights or interiors light come on almost normal or are they flatline? Still check the leads to the battery.

If you get power to the lights, turn ALL electrical OFF > and listen the the Alternator. If you hear a low hum/buzz the bridge rectifier is toast.

If all else fails it looks like you will be calling Land Rovers Parent Company..... AAA

How old is the battery? And are the leads OK?

Ah, oh well. Dimming lights tells us that it's the alternator anyway.

Protip - The Alternators from Advance are ****. I went through FOUR of them in 2 weeks.

Thanks for the replys ! just finished installing my new alternator from advance auto. I hate putting on crap parts but, when your broke down on the side of the road and its the only alternator in 50 miles. A new bosch unit is $950 everything else from other companies is just re-manufactured bosch. One thing has me worried the sticker on the alternator and the box indicate its the required 130 amp but, the black plastic housing on back of alternator is printed that its a 115 amp? anyway its back up and running fine now.
thanks again.

Great I looked up the numbers on the alternator and it comes back to a 2001 Mercedes ml320. I guess someone somewhere switched or mixed up something.

I know it doesn't help you now, but I ordered a brand new Bosch from BPUtah. Under $400. Has worked great the last three years it's been in

That is some BS! So they should have sold you #12045 but they gave you # 12022
How did the 7 rib Rover belt fit the 6 rib MBZ pulley? Did you have to use your old pulley or is this really F'd up?

What a day from hell. Snow, 5 kids, a DII, and Advance Auto Parts counter monkeys. Hope things get better soon!
