Default Help in Dayton Area

Hey Guys, so I'm back in the States and have started working on my '02 Disco that my wife bought while I was gone. It's in fairly decent shape, needs some small things and a couple big ones. I rebuilt the driveshaft this weekend thanks to the write-ups here. It looks like I have a pretty good oil leak. My wife took it to the Nashville dealer before I got home, they supposedly put dye in it but couldn't pinpoint a leak said, "it's coming out all over" so they want to do the heads for $2600.00. I'm a decent shadetree mechanic and from what I've read here think I can do it. I will be taking it back up to Dayton OH, where I'm stationed, before starting and my question is for anyone around that area. I'll be looking for any good shops to help with this project and anything else that comes up. Thank you in advance for the help.

Stan

I would start with tightening up the valve covers, they are the #1 spot to leak. Clean the engine and then figure out where it's leaking from. Don't do the head gaskets unless you really need to. Other oil leak spots are the valley gasket, front cover gasket, front & rear crank oil seal, oil pressure sensor, oil cooler hoses (need o rings), oil pan gasket.

I think the guys from GreenOvalGuild.com or the Miami Valley LR Society are your local Rover clubs/groups. I'd suggest touching base with them to see if they can recommend a good local shop...

Stan, Where in the Dayton area are you? I'm in Bellbrook if you want me to try to help you out. I work over on Springfield St right down from the base. PM me your number and we can take a look. I've got an '03 that Ive done HG on and an '01 that I'm getting ready to do.

Thanks guys. Bundu, I actually bought a dye kit the other day before I made my post and was going to try to pinpoint a little better where it's leaking from. What's interesting is, the top half of the engine appears clean so I am trying to diagnose it a little better before tearing into it. From what you said I guess the heads shouldn't be done just to prevent a blow-out? I was kind of thinking from everything that I've read here that they will blow eventually and chances are I'll drop a cylinder liner. So I was thinking maybe I should just get it done and hopefully get another 100k out of it...
