Help with diff lock
I did a search but couldn't find an answer to my specific issue here...
The truck is in high range, the shifter will move from right to left, but not up or down at all. When moved left I get the 4x4 light in the cluster, when moved to right it goes off. Either right or left, the truck remains in high range...
What do I need to do to fix this??? Anyplace I should be greasing? Is there is fuse for this? Relay of some type broken? It has been stuck since the middle of last winter... During the last weeks of winter I got stuck in a parking lot, and had the shifter worked I'd have been out no problem. Instead my rear wheels would spin and the front would do nothing most of the time...

Sounds like you have linkages that are stuck. What year truck? If you have CDL like my '04, when you shift to the left and lock thediffyou should get 4 wheels spinning in snow even in high range. You can get under the truck w/ some WD40 or similar product and try to free the linkage. I engage mine once a month or so just to keep it free, even if I'm not 4 wheeling.
If you have a D1 and this is happening, your linkage has frozen up do to lack of use. I would suggest crawling under the t/case and try a lube the linkage, Don't force the shifter or you may break a part causing you to buy a whole new assembly.
Linkage is more on the top of the t/case. Sometimes just getting under there with a power scrubber and blasting the case with water will loosen thing up. Other wise you will have to remove the console to get to it thru the top side.
I have a '97 Disco with 170k on the clock and this link helped me with my cdl problems. http://home.twcny.rr.com/eeibooks/ro...codifflock.htm
I had to remove the two housings from my 'new' transfer case and clean them by hand, re-lube, and o-ring them. Worked much better after that, it's not always the linkage though those also suck The whole system is just designed to fail. Once you get it working put grease over all the moving parts and keep doing it to keep salt/dirt out of there and it might last a bit longer. If you're that far gone you probably want to pull the shifter and clean it thouroughly.
