I bought an 06 LR3 HSE from the most ghetto looking used car lot on the planet!!! The dudes office had car parts galore & if my wife had come she’d have run away screaming. Then I talk to the older mans son. He explained his dad buys from auction sites & then sells them for a small profit as a hobby. I looked up the history on the LR3 I was interested in and sure enough it had been traded into one of the local LR Dealerships & then sold at auction.
The LR3 had a few misc interior bits that needed TLC (mainly the driver door lock cover), and it needed brakes. Got it for 10.9K out the door with 90K on it. I’ve owned it a year and a half now and after an alternator, a battery, and a brake switch it’s been excellent.
I do not buy from lots like that ever, but that guy was an exception! When I changed the oil on it the first time I was pleased to be staring at an OEM LR oil filter. Also I looked up the previous owners address on the NAV Unit & it was in a very $$$$$$$$$$ part of town, so it had been dealer maintained.
That D2 looks clean & original. I’d go for it & Vienna Green is a nice color. My 04 is Vienna Green with a black interior.

Tell The $tealer you want a new or polished drivers side headlamp (it's faded) and some tires (or some $ off). The lamp is a common and minor thing. Looks like the passenger was already replaced. And not the best pic, but those tires look toast.
" To my understanding, they're both honest, reputable dealers."
Is this even possible in the Used Car Business? I'd still like to hope so, but..........

Be sure to look hard at the boxed frame rails, the frame basically(especially the rear). These frames like to rust under the undercoating. So poke around for a good inspection.
Just remember there is a very good reason these are sold
> REAR QUARTER CHASSIS DISCOVERY II 1999-2004 - Rovers North - Classic Land Rover Parts
> CHASSIS DISCOVERY II LHD 03-04 GALVANIZED PLQ134, KVD000960 - Rovers North - Classic Land Rover Parts

Worried, no...just pointing out what the flaking rust looks like. But if after you give the rust a poke with something like a screwdriver and you get a hole, then you might need to address it. The majority of the frame rust problems is normally in the rear. And this crappy metal really doesn't care about mileage or the climate the truck lives in. IMHO these trucks left England pre-rusted.
Again, frame rust is not something to be worried about, but to be very aware of. If it's a problem correct it early before you get a big hole in the frame. Maybe since you already bought this rig you might NOT want to Google pics of Disco frame rot. It's not pretty.

Perfect, then don't be embarrassed and climb under this thing and poke around with a screwdriver. I once put just my hand through the top of a DII frame just in front of the gas filler neck. And the truck "looked" in great shape. Rust loves these frames. And while your at it lift up the carpet D and P side front and check the floor for rust. It might not be through to the underside, but if it's there you'll see and smell it. Yes, no B$ "smell" it.
And I'm not trying to crap on this or any truck... just look at it eyes wide open. Good Luck!
