Help? Orlando Area
Hello all,
I own 2 Land Rover Disco 2001/2003. Wanted to know if anyone on this board lived in the Central Florida Area?
My 2001 Overheated yesterday, 147k miles, has 3 amigos and maf needs to be replaced (per Autozone) Up until yesterday has been running great. I pulled over immiediaty let it cooled and filled it up with water and drove it back home (3 miles). No coolant leaks or smells. I am thinking of ordering a thermostat and hoping that cures it. What do you all think?
The other is a 2003 DISCO 145k miles had head gasket replaced about 8 months ago. The shop I took it told me in order to stop the CLICKING?Tapping noise I was hearing I had to spend 2k. After doing the entire head/gasket job 2 weeks later the noise came back. So I replaced the passenger side oxy sensors, the noise went away again for about a month. They came back and once the motor warms up the noise comes back. (sounds like a diesel truck honestly) Surprisingly runs good and gets me about 320 miles to a tank. Am I killing my truck by not addressing these sounds? Is it the drivers side OXY/Sensor or the cats? No codes on my dashboard.
Looking for help?

I have an '04 that makes the same terrifying sounds as yours. I have 93k on it now and it started ticking/tapping/whatever way back around 45k. Other than making noises that make its demise seem imminent, it runs great! LOL
Bundu has an '03 that makes the exact same sound. I was with Bundu yesterday doing some offroading and his truck sounds EXACTLY like mine. I just keep changing the oil and try to drive with the music loud enough I don't hear the tick.
With regard to the '01- what's the maintenance history on it? How long have you owned it? Is it still on the original thermostat?

Hello, Kissimmee here.
IMO the 2003/2004 are designed to tick so that you know the engine is still running.
My 2003 ticks, it comes and goes, if I drive a long distance it stops clicking for about a week.
Service your 2001 cooling system, i.e. do a descent flush and replace your thermostat and water pump (if it is not new) and add water wetter to the coolant.

Okay, the sound issues makes me feel better, although I wished I had not spent that 2k on the head job. Could have used that cash for a lift/winch/tires LOL. I kind of like that Diesel sound.
As far as the 2001 is concerned. I just purchased it 3 weeks ago. I live in Orlando and purchased it in Largo. Also have taken multiple 2 hours trips within the last 2 weeks and havent had any problems. This last trip was 15 minute trip before it overheated. The previous owner changed out the cats about a year ago. Other than that don't know whether the head gasket has been placed.

Well if you needed hgs then it's not wasted money, because if you did not do them then you would be replacing the whole engine. 2K is ballpark for that job, you can do it yourself for much less if you are mechanically inclined.
Sort out your 2001 cooling system before you do serious damage to the engine, it only takes a bit of overheating to do some damage.

Do yourself a favor and get an ODBII scanner that gives real time readings, something like the scan gauge or the ultra gauge. http://www.ultra-gauge.com
You get real time water temp and you can set audible warnings on the ultra gauge.
